Lets Talk about Keywords how to select them

My favorite saying is ----....

-I know you believe you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I meant-

I am working on a new project and the question is "How do I select keywords for my business" Like I explained before know your competition and use their stuff and modify it. Your competition may have done what most business do they think of their business and use their jargon for that business and Wa-La "Keywords" Naw not that simple but it really is simple. Are you confused again........

OK let look at a karate school I am going to open up. I do some homework and see my competition has these 3 sites and I grab their keywords.

1. - keywords = "Kung Fu, Martial Arts, Martial Arts Classes, Black Belt, Martial Arts School,

self-confidence, self-discipline, concentration, self-control, self-respect, Ari Moon, Great Grand Master Yong Moon,

fitness, exercise, Kung Fu in Los Angeles,"

2. - Keywords ="wushu, martial arts, taiji, tai chi, long fist, kung fu, NWTC, martial arts stunts, martial arts supplies, weapons, Bejing Wushu Team"

3.- keywords ="Karate, Youth karate, Building self-esteem, self-confidence, centered, personal style, BKG Wado-ryu, BKG karate, self defense, women's fitness, martial arts, mindfulness"

Lets look at some of these Keywords they used. I have made some of these BOLD so you can see WHY these are NOT good keywords. I am a thirteen-year-old pimple faced 76-pound geeky boy and I'm tired of being bullied so I want to learn KARATE. I get on my computer and go to GOOGLE and search for self-confidence, self-discipline, concentration, self-control, self-respect naw that wont bring up any good schools in KARATE how about martial arts stunts or weapons I still do not get any Karate Schools I KNOW how about I search for Building self-esteem, self-confidence, centered, personal style ------

NOW WAY WILL THESE keywords WORK

HOW ABOUT

Karate Lessons ----karate class -----karate classes -------

Children's Karate --------Childrens Karate -------Children Karate

kids Karate ---------Karate Instruction ------------Private Karate Classes

Group Karate Classes ----------self defense

These are keywords that my customer will probably use to find me. Think about your customer and how he is going to find you. How will they look for your products and services. Notice that Children has 3 different ways of spelling it this is because computers are very precise and I being a bad speller will likely use all three of the above mistakes on different days different times of the day. So I hedge my bets and use a miss spelled word as a keyword-----

By the way this is how big bucks have been made People have bought names of name brand products with different spelling and make the site look like the real McCoy.....Different subject different time but be aware a spelling mistake is a good keyword (my cousin name is Maggy - Maggie) the same difference, it’s just spelled different get it.

Anyway I hope this gives you something to think about in selecting Keywords --search and think like your customers -- look at your competition keywords and think some more. If you have the $$$ there are KEYWORD experts that will help you find your Keywords for you but expect to define your business and the purpose of your website very well. You should do this from the beginning but for other people to get your vision of your business is hard sometimes and doing your self at first will give you the chops that when you do hire someone to do it you will know that it's RIGHT.

I hope this help a little bit if not ask anytime.

Search Engine part 2

How to Promote Your Web Site on any Search Engine part 2

Let's talk some more on how to get your website placed high on the search engines.
Here are some Robots/Spiders that will look at your site and crawl it!

Googlebot
MSNBot
Yahoo Slurp
spider49.yandex.ru
71-214-187-28.tcso.qwest.

What do these bot do? In the last posting i showed my meta tags from my site let take a look and the robot meta tag.

meta name="ROBOTS" content="INDEX,FOLLOW" />

There is allot of people in the SEO world that will argue what is best for the RobotTag but I simply put in INDEX,FOLLOW this tells the Bots to index your page and follow any link from that page to were ever it leads. Such as your menu on your home page links to other pages in your site the INDEX,FOLLOW will make sure that all your pages will be index.

In part 1 I talk about the META tags content and keywords now I will add a few more tricks. These robot and spiders will look at the first 200 characters in your page and use that information to place you on top. So make the 1st 200 characters count, keep your keywords in mind and use this tip to your advantage. It's the 1st 200 characters not 200 words that the bot look at and use natural language. In the old days some sites would use sex sex sex sex sex in the keywords and the 1st 200 characters the search engines got hip to that trick and they want these characters to be word and a proper sentence. I hope this makes some sense (it hard not being geeky).

Another tip is to use the meta tag CHANGED:
meta name="CHANGED" content="20090721;9112400">
This tags tells the bots and spiders that this site has new changes and so it's fresh the content="20090721 part tells the bots that this was changed on the year 2009 month 07 day 21 so on July 21, 2009 is the last time this page was changed. A website that changes will get better treatment than a web page that is old and stale. The web wants new things not old pages that never change. So change your pages once in a while once a month and make sure to change this tag when you make the change. AH HA so maybe I can change the tag and never change the web page watch out because these search engines people get hip to that.

One more tip to add when ever you are on a web site mouse over a picture and the mouse pointer will bring back some text this is called alt-text and every picture on your site should have an alt-text tag added to it. From wikipedia
For the use of alt attributes in Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Alternative text for images.

The alt attribute is used in HTML and XHTML documents to specify alternative text that is to be rendered when the element to which it is applied cannot be rendered. In HTML 4.01, the attribute is required for the img and area tags. It is optional for the input tag and the deprecated applet tag.
The syntax of the alt attribute is -

img alt="...">
area alt="...">

Here is a tip inside a tip use the alt-text tags with some of your keywords this will make you look more relevant to the search engine Bots and Spiders. Every time I write bot and spiders I want to add from mars to much David Bowie when I was young.

Some of these term are really hard to for me to write in plain English but I hope that some of makes sense. These last 3 tips will help your web site go up to the top of the search engines.

How to Promote Your Web Site on any Search Engine.

How to Promote Your Web Site on any Search Engine.

Today there will be millions of searches performed on the Internet, many of them looking for exactly what you are selling. The process of getting your website to the top of the search engines is known as search engine optimization (SEO)

People may think that promoting your web site is black magic, and allot of SEO (search Engines Optimization) companies will give you all kinds of geek words to make their work seem like the black art but it's simple and a little work will get you to the number one spot withing a month or so.

So let's start . First your website: you got it looking real pretty and when the user sees it they will use it to buy your service. There is code that makes your website pretty and there is code that makes your website popular. The first big secret is to look at the “keywords” Those are the words that people will use to find your website
How do I find these keywords? Well like any good SEO shop you look at your competition. Look for any business that is doing the same thing as you on “google.com” Look at the top of the first page. Let me explain Google's page. There are sponsor links; these are companies that pay google.com to place them on top for their key words; it's called AdWords--I can help you with that. Look and the non-sponsors sites; pick one and click on it. When you get to their site you use your browser to look at the code under the website (look under the hood). On every browser you will find in the menu on top “View>Page Source” here you will see a bunch of gobbly geek stuff but you are looking for “META tags” here is an example of my site's META tags:

meta name="ROBOTS" content="INDEX,FOLLOW" />

meta name="copyright" content="July 2009">

meta name="geo.region" content="US-AZ" />

meta name="geo.placename" content="Miami" />

WHAT IS ALL THIS GEEK STUFF !!!!!!
Well in this article I will only address the title>
meta name="keywords">
meta name="description
"

The title> tag is very very important (1st KEY)– when you looked on the google page you saw the names of the sites. This is the information that google gets from you title> tag and places on their search.

Trick# 1 use your site name and the phone number; people will see the name and the number and call you 1st since on most sites you have to get to the page to dig out there phone number.

Next is the meta name="keywords"> tag; this is the (2nd KEY) to placing you high up on the search engines pages. As you can see, I use word one or two and a comma. You can use a phrase if you wish, but for now this is your competition, so use their keyword and add a few of your own.

Last is the meta name="description"> tag this is used on the search page as a description of your site of you competition, so modify and use this as your own.

Now you can add these META tags to your web site and submit your site to Google, Yahoo , Bing any site you want; they will send out a spider or bot and scan your website and before too long you will be in the top of your keywords. ITS THAT SIMPLE

I know you may be thinking “but this is not legal is it?”. It's been done for the last 20 years on the web. (Yeah the internet is only 20 years old dah!) As soon as you're on top, someone will come and use your keyword and do the same thing that you are doing, since anyone can see your keyword they will steal them--there is no applicable copyright on site keywords. Of course there are a few more tricks to this pony but that's for another article.

Thanks--and I hope this will take the black art out positioning your site to rank in the top of any internet search engine.
